This Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir, told via sequential art, is a haunting story-within-a-story of Vladek Spiegelman, a Jewish survivor of Hitler’s Europe, and his son Art, a comic book artist coming to terms with his aging father’s history as he documents it for a biography. When telling his father’s story, Spiegelman depicts Jewish characters as anthropomorphic mice and Nazis as anthropomorphic cats–hence the title.
