SUMMARY:The Kennicott Bible: A Masterpiece of Jewish Book Art, with Katrin Kogman-Appel
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nClick here to register for this free virtual event, co-presented by New Lehrhaus.\n\nThe Kennicott Bible is one of the most celebrated illuminated Hebrew Bibles that survives today, delighting readers since its completion in 1476. Originating from La Coruña in northern Spain, it features lavish carpet pages, gold leaf silhouettes, and abundant marginal decorations. This extraordinary illuminated manuscript is a treasure trove of history, culture, devotion, art, and cross-cultural collaboration.\nIn a new book from the University of Oxford’s Bodleian Library, reproductions of the decorated pages of the stunning manuscript are accompanied by chapters featuring contemporary experts in the fields of Bible study, book history, and medieval Jewish art. Editor Katrin Kogman-Appel will offer a visual presentation detailing the manuscript’s history, features, and significance.\nKatrin Kogman-Appel is the Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Jewish Studies at the University of Münster. \n\n\n\n\n
