SUMMARY:Immigrant Jews on the Silent Screen
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nTo register for this free in-person program co-presented by New Lehrhaus, click here. The Library is located at 1835 Ellis Street in San Francisco, with free garage parking ( https://goo.gl/maps/h11asWbpMhssBkMq6 ) at 1227 Pierce Street between Ellis and Eddy.  \nHoward Freedman will share a variety of short film clips that demonstrate how immigrant Jews were represented in films of the silent era, ranging from admiring portraits to prejudiced caricatures.\nNote that the image quality of some of these films will leave much to be desired.\nHoward Freedman has served since 2009 as director of the Jewish Community Library. He has written the Off the Shelf column on books in J. The Jewish News of Northern California since 2012.\nProgram made possible, in part, by Denise Selleck.\n\n\n\n\n
